Abstract:Based on panel data for five provinces in northwest China from 2000 to 2016,by establishing two spatial weight matrixes of geographical proximity and economic distance, this paper analyzed the influence of financial agglomeration on scientific and technical innovation in this area empirically. The results show that there are significant spatial autocorrelation between financial agglomeration and scientific and technological innovation for five provinces in northwest China. Agglomeration of the whole financial industry has an obvious positive influence on regional scientific and technological innovation. But to the sub-sectors of financial industry, bank agglomeration and insurance industry agglomeration have positive effects on regional scientific and technological innovation, while securities industry agglomeration has a negative effect. Furthermore, economic development, government investment in science and technology and human capital have a significant promoting effect on regional scientific and technological innovation, while opening has a negative inhibitory action on it.
