Abstract:With the increasing investment in cloud computing industry from Chinese government and corporations, Chinese cloud computing market has achieved rapid growth since 2011. In the meantime, the competitiveness of Chinese cloud vendors keeps enhancing, emerging an outstanding vendor named Alibaba Corporation. However, Chinese cloud vendors’ competitiveness is not as strong as their American peers in global competition, reflecting in many operational shortcomings. In this case, this study initiates multidivisional comparison between Chinese and American cloud vendors. The findings include: Even though Chinese cloud vendors are inferior to their American peers in global competition, they have a large amount of growth potential; compared with Amazon Cloud, the cloud computing business of Alibaba Corporation is beneficial to its overall development in the long run, but the performance of its cloud business needs to be improved; in global market, AliCloud and Amazon Cloud can learn from each other on how to build up reliable cloud infrastructure and memory. Through learning from outstanding American cloud vendors, this paper explores where Chinese cloud vendors should focus on in the next ten years. In a strategic view, the development of Chinese cloud computing has a great impact on Chinese corporate transformation. Thus, this study will inspire Chinese cloud computing practitioners.
