Based on the invalid patent data from 2008 to 2010 obtained by SIPO (State Intellectual Property Office), this paper analyzes the influencing factors on patent renewal time from patent quality perspective. Statistical results show that the foreign patent’s average renewal time is 2 years longer than domestic patent. The number of patent claims and pages have significantly influence on the renewal time. The patent renewal time have obvious difference within the type of patent right holder. Public institutions hold the longest maintenance and foreign patentees show more superiorities than domestic patentees on patent maintenance.
