Abstract:Information technology profoundly influences the innovation and performance of enterprises. However, there exist three major deficiencies in the existing literature, that are the confusion of resources and capabilities, no enough attention to security capability, and lack of detailed distinction on organizational performance. Based on the theories of IT resources and capability, this paper constructed an influence model of IT on the performance of enterprises in the Internet context. The model was verified with survey data from 219 domestic enterprises. We found the meaningful distinction between IT resources and capabilities. Accordingly, we argue that IT security capability should be an important capability of enterprises, and IT application capabilities have an impact on business performance mediated by R & D innovation. Finally, theoretical and practical implications were discussed.
