Abstract:Strategic emerging industry is the focus of the present global industry competition, but China’s strategic emerging industry is in the low-end status in global value chain (GVC), and facing the risk of lock-in effect in the long term. So it is of great significances to study the upgrading in GVC of strategic emerging industry in China. By introducing the GVC driven mechanism theory, the paper firstly analyzes the influential factors of the upgrading in the GVC of China’s strategic emerging industry. Then it takes an empirical analyzing on the influencing factors, by using panel-data model. The result shows that, R&D is the key activity, and the input-intensity of R&D and R&D’s human resource have different effects. The technical efficiency in production and the profit margin in sales can promote the upgrading in the GVC of China’s strategic emerging industry as well, but the export scale’s expansion will play an adverse role. Basing on the research it puts forward the path to upgrading in GVC by taking new generation of information technology industry as a case study.
