Abstract:Objective: This study was designed to quantitatively identify the key fields of engineering technology in China. Method: First, four criteria were determined: in line with national strategic demands, with good theoretical research foundation, with high technology research and development level, with new products that can provide support for economic development. Then the sum of the ranks for the above-mentioned four criteria was determined for the each of the 52 majors set by Chinese Academy of Engineering. The top 10 majors were chosen as the key fields of engineering technology in China. Result: The top 10 majors include information and communication engineering / computer science and technology, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering and technology, transportation engineering, energy and electrical technology and engineering, metallurgical engineering and technology, mining technology and engineering, power and electrical equipment engineering and technology, environmental science and technology and clinical medicine. Conclusion:The above-mentioned 10 majors are the Key Fields of Engineering Technology in China.
