Abstract:As an important intermediate input factor, the producer service industry has a positive role in promoting manufacturing industry upgrading. From the perspective of input-output efficiency, the paper evaluates the promotion effect of producer service industry development on manufacturing industry upgrading with several DEA methods and China’s provincial data. The results show that, the present promotion effect of producer service industry development on manufacturing industry upgrading in China is still at a low level, which is mainly ascribed to the low scale efficiency of producer service industry, also both the insufficient overall scale and the unreasonable internal structure. Besides, there are significant east-middle-west regional and provincial differences in the promotion efficiency and its reasons for the development of producer service industry promoting manufacturing industry upgrading. Based on the above conclusions, the corresponding policy recommendations on developing China’s producer service industry benefiting manufacturing industry upgrading are put forward.
