Abstract:Based on the theory of technology adoption life cycle, we research the “chasm” period of 3D printing technology and the influencing factors of crossing the “chasm” from the following aspects: market, technology, product, and user..Through analyses surveys to find the reality and potential users of 3D printing technology. It then analysis the reality users and find that 3D printing technology is in the left of the “chasm”, and the main user is corporations and government organizations, potential users are user representatives of the early mass market in the right of the “chasm”,and they are the key to crossing the “chasm”.Besides, there are significant differences in the focus factors between users at the both ends of the “chasm”. Through exploratory factor analysis on potential users,we find that the “technophiles” is most likely to be the users of a nicheSmarket in the early mass market, and the “pragmatists” may be a market segment for further expansion. Finally, this dissertation proposes some suggestions for three different types of users.
