Abstract:From the perspective of biased technological progress, this paper studies the reasons of energy intensity change in China by using combined method of LMDI index decomposition and regression, and explains the phenomenon of energy intensity decreasing in China. The main conclusions obtained are as follows: Firstly, the improvement of energy-type technology level significantly affects the domestic energy intensity from the growth of energy intensity under exogenous bias technology progress, and the improvement of energy price and technology level can explain the change of energy intensity by 28%and 72% respectively. Secondly, in terms of increasing energy intensity under the improvement of endogenous biased technology level, the proportion of secondary production, energy price and R&D investment are the main reasons for the change of energy intensity, and the main reason for the decline of domestic energy intensity since the reform and opening up is the rapid growth of R&D investment and the increase of energy price.
