Abstract:In order to objectively understand the leading advantages and disadvantages of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area in science and technological innovation, and to help the construction of international scientific and technological innovation center, this paper starts with the key elements of science and technological innovation, such as the foundation, environment, main body, talents, input and output, and conducts a comparative study of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area with New York Bay area, San Francisco Bay Area and Tokyo Bay Area through multi-source data of population, economy, enterprise registration, patents and papers. It is concluded that Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area has a strong momentum of development and obvious growth in science and technology innovation, and has a great potential to match or even surpass the world-class Bay Areaes in terms of science and technology innovation. But at the same time, it is also found that the shortcomings in the main body, talents, input, output and other key innovation elements of scientific and technological innovation are increasingly prominent, which has become an important obstacle for it to build an international scientific and technological innovation center with global influence. Based on the above results of comparative analysis, it is suggested that the international influence and competitiveness of technological innovation in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area should be comprehensively enhanced from the aspects of promoting collaborative innovation, strengthening the talent base, strengthening R&D investment and giving full play to the leading role of enterprises.
