Abstract:The aging agricultural labor force and return of migrant labor force result in the fundamental change of the structure of agricultural labor force. Based on a survey dataset covering 2 293 rural households in seven provinces, this study analyzes the difference in farm size and participation in technological training among non-migrants, return migrants with agricultural experience, and return migrants without agricultural experience. The results show that there exists obvious difference in individual and family characteristics, such as years of farming, age, education, and wealth. Return migrants without agricultural experience manage significant larger size of farms than the other two types of households, and such difference exists in the production of crops fitting for large-scale production. Meanwhile, return migrants without agricultural experience perform much more active in participating technological training. However, the demand of different types of households for agricultural technologies differs.
