Abstract:Construct the modified competitiveness index and disciplinary competitiveness index of normal university with reference to existing relevant research, and divide the corresponding 5 levels according to the index value. Then analyze its basic research competitiveness based on the data of general project of National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) during the five years from 2015 to 2019. The results of the research show that from 2015 to 2019, the average funding rate of 25 normal universities for general projects from the NSFC of China is higher than the national average, but there is a large gap in the competitiveness of basic research among various universities, presenting a trend of “strong in the east and weak in the west” and “high in the south and low in the north”. The development of basic research in disciplines is uneven, and the overall strength of basic research in mathematical sciences, chemical sciences, life sciences, and information sciences is relatively strong, while the overall strength of earth sciences, engineering materials sciences, management sciences and medical science is relatively weak; and lack of basic research talents, and the number of projects that can be applied for each year is limited. In this regard, it is proposed that the state continue to increase its investment in basic research in local normal universities, and normal universities should actively strengthen the development of interdisciplinary research and pay attention to the introduction of high-level basic research talents and teams, so as to continuously improve the basic research competitiveness of normal university in china.
