Abstract:Ambidextrous innovation is an effective means for enterprises to obtain and maintain competitive advantages. Using fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) method, we take 32 high-tech listed companies as cases to study effects of the external environment, the enterprise resource and ability, and the top management team on ambidextrous innovation. There are three ambidextrous innovation-driven mechanisms of enterprises: market and non-market complementary, competitive pressure and resource capacity combined and technology-oriented. When resources and technologies are limited, the complement of the market and non-market factors will drive ambidextrous innovation. Under the role of market competition, enterprises' redundant resources and technological diversification are the strong guarantees to carry out ambidextrous innovation. When the competitive environment is relatively stable, the technological diversification of enterprises is conducive to their ambidextrous innovation.
