Abstract:This study analyzed 2208 retracted papers recorded in the Retraction Watch Database. These papers were authored from China, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Japan, and published during 2014 to 2018. The analysis results show that the number of retracted papers and the retracted papers due to research misconduct were decreased in past five years. The number of retracted papers and retracted papers due to research misconduct from China are higher than those in other four countries. Plagiarism is the most common type of research misconduct. In terms of the number of retracted paper due to research misconduct per 10000 papers, China has made great progress in 2014-2018. But China still has a large gap with those developed countries. From the perspective of discipline distribution, the proportion of papers retracted due to research misconduct in the disciplines of basic life sciences and health sciences is showing a decreasing trend year by year, while the proportion of papers retracted in the discipline of physical sciences is increasing year by year. Also, it showed a trend that the number of retracted paper is increasing in the fields of emerging technologies and inter-disciplinarity.
