Abstract:Based on the perspective of green development, this paper uses the TOPSIS entropy method to measure the coupling and coordination degree between high-quality economic development and environmental protection in western cities of China from 2004 to 2018, on the basis of which the coupling and coordination development model is inductively deduced and its regional differentiation characteristics and dynamic evolutionary trends are analyzed. The results of the study show that (1) the coupling and coordination degree of high quality economic development and environmental protection in western cities is fluctuating with a slight increase, and the level of green development in cities has improved, with 2007 being the watershed year when the cities went through a period of oscillation and decline and a period of recovery and increase; (2) the development of coupling and coordination degree in western cities is divided into high level coupling and coordination development type, fluctuating and synchronous coupling and coordination development type, derivation and convergence coupling and coordination development type, and single-wheel drive coupling and coordination development type. (3) the regional gap of coupling and coordination of western cities is widening, with southwestern cities lagging behind northwestern cities, and the improvement focuses on releasing
