Abstract:Within the precise spatial category of metropolitan area, geographical proximity, close economic relationship, innovative resources accumulation and advanced technology transformation system are the basic characteristics which create the conditions for inter-city innovation synergy. technology spillover from the central city to the surrounding cities has become the important form of innovation synergy in metropolitan area. The paper analyzes the effect of proximity factors on innovation spillovers in metropolitan area. Based on the panel data of“1+8”urban agglomeration in Shanghai metropolitan area from 2005 to 2019, and from the perspective of multidimensional proximity, this paper conducts an empirical study on the technology spillover effect refer to Shanghai to the surrounding cities in the metropolitan area .The results show that: (1) Within the Shanghai metropolitan area, both spatial proximity and technological proximity have significant effects on technology spillover, while economic proximity has no significant effect on technology spillover. (2) Using threshold effect model identification test, it is found that both spatial proximity and economic proximity have a single threshold value on technology spillover with spatial and economic abrupt points, while technological proximity does not have a threshold value. On this basis, this paper puts forward policy suggestions and implementation countermeasures from the aspects of optimizing transportation infrastructure network, strengthening the construction information infrastructure, upgrading regional interaction and level of urban economic development, improving the overall innovation ability and innovation cooperation.
