Abstract:International scientific cooperation and innovative development in the context of the Belt and Road initiative has attracted extensive attention since it was proposed. Based on the symbiosis theory, the paper co-authorship and output panel data of 65 countries along the Belt and Road from 2009 to 2018 were selected to build a symbiosis index, and social network analysis and other methods were used to explore the status quo of scientific cooperation, mutual benefit and symbiotic evolution of countries along the Belt and Road, revealing the synergy between cooperation and innovation. The study found that the countries along the route in each symbiosis stage showed an olive shape with two ends less in the middle and more in the middle. Reciprocity synergetic is related to the sustainable economic and social development, development competitiveness and openness of each country. The core countries of the symbiosis network have established stable, integrated and mutually beneficial symbiotic relationships with many countries. With the proposal and advancement of the initiative, the growth rate of symbiotic country pairs has accelerated, and the scale, connectivity and aggregation of the symbiosis network has increased. The status and influence of the Belt and Road Initiative have been gradually improved to achieve win-win cooperation and promote the overall coordinated development of the Belt and Road. With a view to providing theoretical basis and suggestions for the direction of strengthening policies related to scientific cooperation between China and the Belt and Road.
