Abstract:In order to summarize the characteristics of the development of agricultural and rural modernization in Guangdong Province, this study constructs an evaluation index system including six dimensions of industrial prosperity, infrastructure, public services, living environment, rural governance and farmers’ affluence and 28 secondary indicators to evaluate the level of agricultural and rural modernization in Guangdong Province in 2020, and identify the key areas that need to be continuously strengthened.The results show that the overall score of agricultural and rural modernization in Guangdong Province in 2020 is 51.44 points, and there is still a big gap from the target value in 2035. Among them, the score of living environment is the highest, the score of infrastructure is the lowest, and the development of rural infrastructure and public services is obviously lagging behind; Guangzhou has the highest total score among cities, the Pearl River Delta region has the highest average score but the construction of living environment still needs to be strengthened, and the western Guangdong region has the lowest average score, with special attention to rural governance and farmers’ affluence;the difference in industrial prosperity among cities is the largest, and the difference between the highest and the lowest cities is 65.03 points.Finally, this study puts forward suggestions to promote the high-quality development of agricultural and rural modernization in Guangdong Province from six aspects: promoting the integrated development of the whole industry chain, making up for the shortcomings of infrastructure construction, increasing investment in rural people’s livelihood, optimizing rural living environment, improving rural governance level, and forming a long-term mechanism for increasing farmers’ income.
