Abstract:The development of global artificial intelligence technology is at an early stage, providing an opportunity period for China to achieve curve overtaking in this field. Moreover, active layout of the artificial intelligence industry in various regions has also achieved significant results. In order to understand the development level of artificial intelligence in various regions of China, the paper adopts the entropy weight method to measure the development level of artificial intelligence in 30 provinces/municipalities/autonomous regions in 2020 by constructing a ?three levels and four dimensions? indicator system for measuring the development level of artificial intelligence. Based on this, the paper analyzes the measurement results from the four dimensions of the indicator system and the overall situation. The research believes that: (1) From the perspective of comprehensive measurement results, the development level of artificial intelligence in China’s provinces varies, with three major characteristics: regional imbalance, economic dependence, and high in the east and low in the west; (2) From the measurement results of the four dimensions, the contribution of the innovation practice dimension to the development level of artificial intelligence is significantly superior to the other three dimensions, followed by innovation support; (3) From the comparative analysis of various provinces, it can be seen that the measurement results of the four dimensions of Guangdong, Beijing, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Shanghai show a trend of constant strength, while the development of artificial intelligence in northwest regions such as Ningxia, Xinjiang, and Qinghai lags behind. Finally, the paper puts forward some targeted suggestions for the development of artificial intelligence in China.
