Abstract:In order to promote the continuous improvement of the basic research strength of universities, strengthen the role of the main force of basic research in universities and the source of major scientific and technological breakthroughs, we use the panel data of Guangzhou universities from 2018 to 2020 to empirically analyze the key factors that affect the output of basic research achievements in universities. The results indicate that the number and proportion of high-level teachers under the age of 45, with doctoral degrees, the funding amount of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the number of participants in international conferences, and the number of dispatched researchers to cooperate with foreign countries have a significant positive promoting effect on the high-quality output of basic research achievements in universities. This proposes the precise implementation of high-level talent cultivation and introduction to enhance the core competitiveness of basic research in universities; Optimize the funding model of the National Natural Science Foundation of China to promote high-quality development of basic research in universities; Suggestions for strengthening international cooperation in basic research and enhancing the international competitiveness and influence of universities in basic research.
