Abstract:Based on the panel data from 2010 to 2021 of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei urban agglomeration, this paper empirically examines the mechanism of opening up and innovation in green and low-carbon development. The results show that FDI will introduce high-carbon emission industries and significantly promote the increase of carbon emission intensity. Trade openness has an inhibitory effect on carbon emission intensity, but it is affected by the level of urban economic development. There is a significant inverse U-shaped nonlinear relationship between innovation and carbon emission intensity, that is, there is a threshold value of innovation level, and the role of innovation in promoting carbon emission reduction will appear only when it reaches this level. This paper also adds the interaction item of opening up and innovation, and finds that the interaction of FDI, trade openness and innovation can inhibit carbon emission intensity, but the effect is different. FDI and trade openness respectively have a weakening regulating effect and an enhancing regulating effect on the nonlinear relationship between innovation and carbon emission intensity.
