Abstract:In the context of deep integration of new digital technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data analytics, cloud computing architecture, and blockchain technology, corporate development has entered the digital age, and digital transformation has become a crucial pathway for manufacturing firms to gain disruptive innovation advantages, but at present there are fewer discussions on the relevant research on digital transformation to drive the disruptive innovation of manufacturing firms, and the more specific path of the research is not yet clear. In light of this, based on the technology-organization-environment(TOE) framework, a research framework for disruptive innovation in manufacturing firms driven by digital transformation is constructed. The research method of combining necessary condition analysis (NCA) and fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) is adopted, and 25 manufacturing firms in China are selected as the research objects to analyze the common role of different condition factors of digital transformation in promoting disruptive innovation of manufacturing firms, and then systematically explore the group path of disruptive innovation of manufacturing firms driven by digital transformation. The results show that: (1) Digital transformation drives disruptive innovation in manufacturing firms, which is the result of the coordination and value co-creation of multiple conditions in technology, organization and environment, and a single condition is hardly necessary to achieve disruptive innovation; (2) There are four configuration paths: digital technology embedded platform driven, digital technology coordinated strategic integration, digital platform talent aggregation coordinated, and transformation strategy integrated financial support; (3) There are differences in the degree to which conditional factors play a role in different configuration paths of disruptive innovation of manufacturing firms driven by digital transformation.
