Abstract:The talent evaluation consulting service carried out by university libraries is to collect academic object information according to the basic information of academic subjects in accordance with the requirements of functional departments, and present it in the form of charts with specific measurement indicators for the reference of functional departments. When providing such services, libraries are usually required to search and review the academic achievements of a scholar or team in order to make academic evaluation of their representative works.Exploring the application of beam plots and academic traces in talent evaluation and subject consulting services is of great significance for promoting the transformation and upgrading of subject services in university libraries. On the basis of subject services and talent evaluation, the comparability and visualization of scientific research productivity and academic influence are analyzed. The citation frequency sequence of representative works is used to calculate the academic trace and impact torque, and these indicators are used to evaluate the academic influence of representative works. And take the leading talents and the engineering discipline of typical universities as examples, obtain the bibliographical information of the papers and cited references of representative works of the leading talents from the InCites and Web of Science databases, and obtain the Top Papers data of the engineering discipline of the typical universities from the ESI database. The implementation steps of the application of beam plots and academic traces in subject services of university libraries are elaborated in detail. The results indicate that the combination of beam plots and academic traces can depict the overall outline of the research situation of engineering as a discipline by scholars or typical universities at a specific time, and evaluate its academic influence from the perspective of representative works. It can also be compared across disciplines and provide reference for university libraries to carry out disciplinary services.
