Abstract:The selections of R&D organization mode is a result of balancing its benefits, costs and risks for enterprises. In the mode of non-independent R&D, enterprises are faced with a variety of cooperation risks, and the risk of cooperative R&D is higher than commissioned R&D. Therefore, enterprises prefer to choose independent R&D when they engaged in innovation activities, and with the improvement of innovative strategic positioning, they are more inclined to select the independent R&D organization mode. Based on the data of 4303 enterprises from the World Bank Innovation Follow-up Surveys, this paper uses Probit model to test the impact of innovative strategic positioning on the selection of enterprise R&D organization mode. The results show that the enterprises engaged in disruptive innovation are more inclined to implement independent R&D, while the enterprises engaged in incremental innovation are more inclined to choose non-independent R&D, and the probability of choosing commissioned R&D is higher, moreover the improvement of business environment will reduce the contractual risk of both parties and increase the tendency of enterprises to choose non-independent R&D organization mode. The conclusions of this paper have important policy significance.?Relevant policies should be dedicated to promoting the perfection and development of technology trading market, improving the institutional quality level, and providing a good institutional guarantee for technology trading.
