Abstract:The UK Higher Education Discipline and Professional Catalog has broken the traditional discipline and professional classification system, and has undergone an evolution trajectory from a clear JACS hierarchy to a flattened HECoS system structure. The changes in this system have broken through the traditional three-level hierarchical restrictions, providing greater development space for emerging and interdisciplinary disciplines. At present, the use of JACS3.0 and HECoS disciplinary systems for classification is in a transitional period. The changes in the entire disciplinary and professional system in the UK are based on the internal driving force of disciplinary knowledge development, and the external driving force of market industry development. Finally, Proposed suggestions for the optimization, adjustment, and development of disciplines and majors in China: the adjustment of disciplines and majors should achieve timely response to the logic of knowledge development, break down engineering categories to highlight the characteristics of discipline and major settings, promote the interdisciplinary and diversified development of humanities, science, and engineering, and clarify the development path of secondary interdisciplinary disciplines.
